Eisbären, HV71 and Luleå keep winning

Three teams keep their perfect records intact after this weekend: Eisbären Berlin of Germany, and Sweden's Luleå Hockey and HV71. All three teams played today and grabbed their fourth, fifth and fourth respective win in a row. Very impressive!

HV71 and Luleå took their second win in the Czech Republic this weekend by defeating Pirati Chomutov, despite being outshot by the home team in all three periods. Gustaf Wesslau played a strong game in net for the Swedes and didn't give up a goal until the final two minutes. Before that, HV71 had scored three. Luleå were a goal better against HC Plzen 1929, thanks to a late empty netter in the dying seconds of the game when Chris Abbott made it 4-1 in favour of Luleå. Like HV71, Eisbären had from help strong goaltending. Sebastian Elwing made his first start in the European Trophy, and made 41 saves against HC Mountfield. In the last period, Mountfield pummeled Elwing with 17 shots but none went past him. Eisbären won 2-1 with goals from Matt Foy and André Rankel.

Perhaps the most intriguing game of the night was ERC Ingolstadt against Färjestad BK. Färjestad scored to take the lead 5 times in this game, only to see ERC Ingolstadt tie the game every single time! The last game tying goal for Ingolstadt came with just 1:20 left of the game on a powerplay, and riding on that momentum Joe Motzko banged home the winner for Ingolstadt in the overtime, 6-5.

HC Slovan Bratislava as usual had good attendance (6 849) in their home arena. The visitors KalPa started best and were up two goals after the first period, and it took Slovan a lot of work to turn the game around to eventually a 3-2-win after overtime. Milan Kytnar scored the decisive goal.

The two Austrian clubs had success in the two last games of the evening. EC Red Bull Salzburg scored two goals early in the game against Hamburg Freezers. After a scoreless second period, Freezers crept closer when Colin Murphy scored - but Justin DiBenedetto closed the scoring for Red Bull in the game for a 3-1-win. UPC Vienna Capitals defeated JYP 3-2. The score was level at one after two periods, in the third Vienna scored two goals in 1 minute and 35 seconds to get a two goal lead. JYP could only a late consolation goal in the last minute of the game.
