Patrik Sjögren is an IFK fan almost his whole life. We cathed up with him for some Qs and As.
Do you have a set ritual before every game?
Patrik Sjögren: Every game day is too different to make the same rituals, so I don’t have any repeating traditions. Only thing I am concerned is to change my jersey for the next game after a loss, or to keep the same one after winning.
When did the hockey fever came over you and how?
Patrik Sjögren: I’ve been to IFK games since I could walk. As a teenager the louder fan section seemed more interesting than other parts of the rink, so I started to go there and cheer for IFK. Beeing surrounded by other fans, you could feel new passion for winning and the games became almost addictive. This will be my 30th season with season ticket, and the first time I travelled to an away game (Hämeenlinna, only 100 km) was back in 1989.
What was your biggest moment so far in your fan live with your club?
Patrik Sjögren: I’ve seen IFK win three championships – 1983, 1998 and 2011. Most memorable was the –98 championship, when IFK took the gold with clean sweep. That time I had spent 2/3 of my life going to IFK-games, but it was the first championship I saw as a grown-up, after a veeeery long wait.

What experience would you like to scratch from your memories?
Patrik Sjögren: Beeing eliminated in the first round of play off-season is the worst there is. I’m still seeing red over IFK’s loss to Ässät in 1995, when IFK went out straight in three games, scoring only once. It might have happened again since that, but fortunately you can forget even the worst losses.
Which club you just don’t like?
Patrik Sjögren: I have respect for every team that come to play against IFK, but some less for our neighbour rivals Jokerit, since their supporters don’t act very respectful.
What do you like with European Trophy and what games will be your Highlight games?
Patrik Sjögren: It's interesting to see games against international clubs, this way you can compare the level of national leagues. Hockey trips abroad are the best there is, just loved beeing in Prague and Pardubice last year with 70 IFK-fans. I would prefer European Trophy played over the whole season, to see experienced teams performing their best.
