Slovan Bratislava is the early starter in this year's European Trophy and played their second game in the tournament when they faced Vienna Capitals on home ice. Just as in the previous game, it came down to a penalty shootout where Slovan was the stronger team. But unlike the goal fiesta in the opening game against Pirati Chomutov where the scoreline was 5-5 after full time, this time only two goals were scored in regulation.
Mario Bliznak scored his second of the tournament and put Slovan Bratislava ahead late in the first period, but just 22 seconds into the second period defenseman Jamie Fraser made it 1-1 for Vienna Capitals. The remainder of the game was scoreless, with good goaltending from Ville Hostikka and Vienna's Fabian Weinhandl who came in halfway into the game.
In the shootout, the goalies combined to stop 5 penalty shots before Michal Vondrka scored the gamewinning 2-1-goal.
Just as in Chomutov, the game was well attended. 6097 spectators were in the arena in Bratislava tonight.
