Q&A with Kometa fan Václav Herzán

Summer fun is in full swing. But fans are impatiently waiting for the new calendar of preparatory matches of their team. One of them is Václav Herzán, who reminded his rich experiences with Kometa and at the same time he confirmed, that he can’t wait to see more, though preparatory, hockey battles. Main point of the preparation will be the duels of international tournament of European Trophy, to which he’s looking forward the most.

Your favourite club is Kometa, of course. Do you remember the early days?

First memories are from 1988-1989. I don’t even know why but moments from match with Liptovský Mikuláš (SVK) stuck in my head. Then are the memories from 1995-1996, the extra league season with no happy ending. Then suffering in First league (2nd highest) and then for a long time also in the Second league (3rd highest).

Are there any other hockey teams you like as well?

Not really. In our league it really depends on what hockey do teams produce in season.  And in abroad? It depends on in which team are Czech hockey players. Only in NHL I always watch the results of NY Rangers.

What hockey teams don´t you like?

Well. It depends on what feeling do the players leave in the audience after every match with Kometa. I don’t like BK Mladá Boleslav. No one can take away the events and memories from First league play-off.

What was the most memorable moment in your fan life?

I hope that the best will come. But the last silver season was fantastic so one of the best experience was to rule over the extra league play-offs.
But the best experience was definitely the play-off atmosphere of the stadium. First battles with Chomutov, Hradec Králové, Ústí nad Labem and ?eské Bud?jovice. Maybe this atmosphere will repeat also in extra league.
And a beautiful expierence was also the final of summer Tipsport Cup in Znojmo.

What was your worst moment?

Fall into 3rd highest league. And the seasons in those times.

Do you often go to see matches in other cities/countries? If yes, what’s your favourite “destination”?

I have to say that I’m not very good “tourist”. Every season there are about 5 matches away from out home town and we take then more like family trips. I haven’t actually visited all stadiums of the extra league yet.
But I like Pardubice, especially for their smooth fans. On the contrary, I will consider well, if I’m ever going to Slavia Praha again because of the things that happen there. From full-of-complex speaker of the home team to the excess of some of our “fans”.

What do you like about European Trophy?

The most exciting is the comparison with strange and different hockey styles. In European hockey is missing competition which would be enjoyed by large seriousness of hockey fans and clubs. Of course I know that’s all about money and hockey can’t compete with football in number of fans and expandability. It’s very nice to see European’s top clubs at our stadium although it’s before regular season.

Are you looking forward on any special game in ET 2012?

Of course. I want to see duels against Lulea and Oulun.

Kometa played first friendly game with Russian monster SKA St. Petersburg. Did you visit this match?

Yes, pause was too long; hunger for hockey was bigger and bigger. Petersburg has a great team with star players. There were two Czech players and coach Milos Riha. Unfortunately they didn’t play.

Are you satisfied with present players of HC Kometa Brno?

It’s nice that we keep almost all players. I’m troubled from loss of defenseman Jiri Vasicek (he went to Pardubice). I’m still little bit embarrassed by the arrivals, but I believe the team will complement in regular part of season like last year. I hope that this season will be with no nerve. People have achievement from last season in head so it will be very hard. If the players do their best, everything will be ok.
