The first ever all-Czech meeting in the European Trophy was played Friday night in the Budvar Arena where home-team Mountfield and Plzen played out a draw in front of 1550 spectators, with Plzen winning the game 3–2 in OT.

The game was as evenly balanced aas the scoreline suggests. After a gaolless first period, Plzen took the lead late in the second thanks to a goal from Geoff Kinrade. But Mountfield equalized on a power-play before the end of the period, goal scored by Pavel Kasparik.

In the third period, Mountfield took the lead, once again on a power-play when Slovakian defenceman René Vydareny found the net on another power-play, but this time Plzen equalized, once again through Geoff Kinrade who avoided the attention of two homeplayers before scoring the 2–2-goal.

The game went into overtime where Plzen had the first chance through Jaroslav Hlinka. The second chance fell to Tomas Vlasak and homekeeper Jakub Kovar was unable to save his effort giving the extra-point to Plzen.
